Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program: (Promulgated Rules) (Application in Adobe pdf format.) (On-line Application)

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program is intended to promote student excellence and achievement and to recognize exceptional students who show promise of continued excellence. The award is based on federal funding.  Recipients are randomly selected.

To be eligible, the applicants must:

• be a Tennessee resident who meets citizenship requirements, and
  
• graduating from high school, or receiving a GED no more than one year prior to the award year, and  
  
• have at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, or a 3.0 grade point average and scored a minimum composite score of 24 on the ACT or 1090 SAT (math and critical reading only), or have earned a GED score of 570 or higher, and  
  
• attend full-time at an accredited institution within the U.S., except military academies.

Once the award selection has been made, recipients will be required to furnish an official transcript with their official ACT/SAT scores. 

Awards are made in equal installments each term throughout the academic year.  The award may be renewed three times for a total of four years. The recipient must maintain satisfactory progress and attend full-time to remain eligible.
